Hanken is a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment. It is the perfect place to engage with the research community from different disciplines and to reflect on my own research. I attended several seminars but one of the highlights of my stay was the research seminar where I presented the progress of my thesis work. The discussions that followed were particularly enriching. The feedback from researchers, of very high quality, allowed me to refine the concepts used in my research and clarify the trajectory of my work.
In addition to the academic benefits, I also had the pleasure of discovering the city of Helsinki. Helsinki is a unique, beautiful and human-sized city, easy to visit by bike. The city is a blend of nature and sea, where life is good. I immersed myself into the Finnish culture during Vappu, I spent hours before sleep admiring the sky’s colors (even though I didn’t get the chance to see Northern Lights yet), the beauty of the trees, and the brightness of the sun. The city’s museums, library, and architecture gave me a deep dive into Finnish culture, make me discover Hugo Simberg’s art and Mika Waltari’s books (thanks to Johanna and Pia). I experienced unique Finnish traditions such as sauna after skiing in Lapland, and the stunning natural landscapes. There was still so much to do, but time flies!
This experience is truly memorable, and I am grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to immerse myself into this stimulating environment. I’ll surely see my Finnish colleagues again at events we will both attend in the future, and I look forward to it. Thank you all for having me! It was a real pleasure!
