The Joint Programming initiative’s “More years, better lives (MYBL)” has opened its fifth call “Labour force shortages within the long-term care sector” in collaboration with the Research Council of Finland and other EU national funders. Deadline for applications is 14 May 2024.

This call aims to address how new forms of technological development and digitisation have the potential to be transformative and mitigate labour shortages within the long-term care sector, while also considering that solutions often start from a perspective of technology rather than from the user.

The call covers three interrelated aspects of the labour force shortages in the long-term care sector within the framework of demographic change, ageing and care of older people. Proposals must address all three research topics outlined below, paying particular attention to cross-cutting issues of gender, ethnicity and social inclusion:

  1. Working situation
  2. The role of AI
  3. Cross-national differences and similarities within different welfare systems.

Although proposals will be submitted jointly by research groups from several countries, individual research groups will be funded by their respective national/regional funding organisation. The applications are therefore subject to eligibility criteria of relevant national/regional funding organisations of the respective country/region.
