The Research Council of Finland is opening calls for mobility grants for research visits to Germany, Taiwan, mainland China, and Japan. The call opens on 23 August and closes on 20 September.

Mobility cooperation with mainland China, Taiwan or Germany

Application period: 23 August to 20 September 2023 (at 16.15 Finnish time)

The funding is intended to support project cooperation between Finnish and local researchers, in practice for the travel and living expenses of Finnish researchers or research team members in mainland China, Taiwan, or Germany. Visits may be planned for several periods, from one week up to a few months. 

The project must have both a Finnish and a local responsible person, both of whom must submit an application to their own funding agency. The grant amount and funding criteria differ between the countries, see more below:

  • Mainland China: The grant amount is usually between 2,000 and 25,000 euros per project for two years, depending on the number of participants and the travel distances.
  • Taiwan: The amount is no more than 30,000 euros per project for two years. The funding can only cover the mobility costs of research team members who have a doctoral degree.
  • Germany: The grant amount is no more than 20,000 euros per project for two years. The funding can cover the mobility costs of research team members who are at least at the postgraduate level.

Mobility grant from Finland to Japan (JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship)

Application period: 23 August to 20 September 2023 (at 16.15 Finnish time)

The Research Council of Finland offers funding for one Finnish researcher to visit Japan during between 12 and 24 months. The funding is based on a bilateral agreement between the Research Council of Finland and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

The funding is intended for the researcher’s own mobility costs (necessary travel and living expenses) for research in Japan. The funding comes in the form of a personal grant. The visit must be a single, uninterrupted period. The earliest start date is 1 June 2024, and the latest is 30 November 2024.

The applicant is a researcher who is based in Finland and has close connections to Finland. The applicant is required to have obtained a doctoral degree no later than 31 March 2024. No more than six years must have passed since the applicant completed their degree before the start of the visit to Japan.
