On Thursday (19.12), Yle news\ngave us a reminder that the winter solstice is upon us. The article (in English) also gave us some\n\u201cKaamos tricks\u201d or \u201cdarkness tricks\u201d to get through the long winter nights\nwhich includes special daylight lamps, exercising regularly, and keeping our\nsocial life active. Kauppalehti (in\nFinnish) also provided the list of tips from the Institute for Health and\nWelfare (THL) on how to combat the \u201cthe dark side\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for me, some of the few changes in our house included putting up some fairy lights and taking out some of my Santa figures and Christmas elves and scatter them all around the house (including a hanging Santa underneath our chandelier :D).\u00a0 One of the best purchases we\u2019ve also made is our alarm clock that slowly gets brighter before waking us up (see photo below). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Even though most of us are now\nfree from studies and work, make sure that you still get out to get some\nexercise like skating and skiing with friends and family, catch a movie, share\na coffee or a meal with someone, or just get out there and have some fun. Don\u2019t heed Vader\u2019s call to \u201ccome to the dark\nside\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n My unusual but lovely winter\nexperience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Hanken also has its own ways to\nmake the season brighter. One of those\nis the annual Advent calendar which entails solving a puzzle with the lucky\nwinners receiving wonderful prizes from various sponsors. There\u2019s also a very warm and welcoming\natmosphere there and my daughter loves going there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Due to some unforeseen circumstances,\nI\u2019ve had to take her with me to attend a lecture and a few times to study in\nthe library. She actually listened to\nsome parts of the lecture and had her own \u201cstudy materials\u201d so we\u2019re both\n\u201cstudying\u201d in the library. It\u2019s great to\nknow that when times get tough, I know that Hanken will always welcome my plus\none whenever I need to take her with me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n More winter fun in Hanken<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After the Christmas holidays, Hanken usually gets back to business with a bang!
